Hyderabad: Telangana government has recognized cinema as a priority industry, placing it at par with the IT and Pharma sectors in terms of economic importance.

Inaugurating Allu Cinemas in Kokpaet, CM Revanth promised extensive support for the `hidden gems’ emerging from Krishna Nagar, the traditional breeding ground for the city's aspiring artists and technicians.

The event was hosted by the Allu family on March 12. It served as a platform for the chief minister to outline a bold vision for making Hyderabad a global cinematic hub on par with Hollywood.

Walk Down Memory Lane

Sharing a personal side rarely seen in official briefings, CM Revanth Reddy confessed to being a lifelong `movie buff’. He reminisced about his youth, revealing that he used to hitch rides on lorries to travel to Wanaparthy just to catch the latest releases.

He paid tribute to the `Evergreen Super Star’ Krishna, noting that while the late actor famously completed 15 films a year, today’s stars often spend five to six years on a single project.

"I am a huge fan of Krishna Garu’s adventurous spirit," the CM remarked, also acknowledging legends like NTR and Akkineni Nageswara Rao for their historical role in shifting the industry’s base from Chennai to Hyderabad.

The Hollywood Vision

The Chief Minister emphasized that the Telugu film industry (Tollywood) has outgrown its regional boundaries. Citing technical marvels like Baahubali, RRR, Kalki 2898 AD, and Arundhati, he stated that language is no longer a barrier—only talent matters.

"Our competition is no longer Kollywood or even Bollywood. Our goal is to compete with Hollywood," the CM declared. "We want Hollywood films to be shot right here in Hyderabad."

Understanding ‘Allu Cinemas’

The newly opened multiplex is not just another theater; it is a "passion project" spearheaded by veteran producer Allu Aravind and Global Star Allu Arjun.

Global Standard: The facility houses India’s largest Dolby Cinema screen, which currently ranks as the third-largest in the entire world.

Mission: Moving away from traditional real-estate-driven cinema models, the Allu family aims to offer an immersive, world-class experience that sets a new benchmark for Indian exhibition standards.

A Move Toward Healing and Safety

The CM’s presence at the inauguration also carries significant weight following the tragic events of December 4, 2024. During a promotional event for Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre, a massive crowd surge led to a tragic stampede, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old woman and injuries to her son.

The incident led to a legal investigation involving the theater management and actor Allu Arjun. Observers note that the CM’s presence at the event signals a shift toward institutionalizing and professionalizing the industry. Promoting high-tech, organized venues like Allu Cinemas, the government and industry leaders aim to ensure that fan celebrations are matched by world-class safety protocols.
