Amaravati: Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Monday praised the Hyderabad city police for arresting Immadhi Ravi, the alleged kingpin of a large-scale movie piracy racket, iBomma and Bappam TV.
He also called it a crucial breakthrough in safeguarding the interests of the film industry.
Key accused in piracy racket arrested
Telangana Police recently detained Ravi, the main accused, who allegedly operated piracy platforms from abroad. Officials said he routinely uploaded high-quality pirated versions of new releases on his websites, causing severe financial losses to filmmakers. He was taken into custody upon his return to India.
Film industry bleeding due to piracy: Pawan Kalyan
Highlighting the magnitude of the problem, Kalyan said the film industry has been enduring heavy losses as piracy networks leak movies online on the day of release, undermining the ‘massive financial and creative investment’ put into each production.
Describing the shutdown of the iBomma and Bappam platforms as a welcome move, he said the arrest marks a significant step in discouraging such networks.
Industry is struggling to counter the evolving threat
The Deputy Chief Minister observed that filmmakers are finding it increasingly difficult to combat piracy networks, especially at a time when releasing a film itself has become a costly and high-risk undertaking. He said the latest arrest provides renewed hope for stronger enforcement against digital piracy.
Efforts to stop betting apps lauded
Pawan Kalyan also applauded the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police for their diligent investigation, noting that the operation was successful despite piracy syndicates becoming more audacious and openly challenging law enforcement agencies.
He also appreciated Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar’s wider efforts, particularly his crackdown on illegal betting apps—an initiative that has gained attention in several states and improved coordination among agencies.
The deputy chief minister said the enforcement measures would not only strengthen the fight against piracy but also benefit the Telugu film industry and the broader Indian cinema landscape.
