Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday ordered theater owners to submit proposals for movie ticket prices to the concerned joint collectors. Further decisions will be taken by the joint collectors, it said.
The Andhra Pradesh government filed a lunch motion petition in the Division Bench challenging the single judge verdict suspending the government order to reduce movie ticket prices in the state. The government sought a stay on the judgment.
The court, on Thursday, also directed the government to set up a committee to make decisions about the ticket prices. The court adjourned the case till Monday.
It may be recalled that the state government had issued an order reducing movie ticket prices in the state. The advocates of theatre owners had argued that the government has no power to reduce the ticket prices and that the theater owners have the right to increase the prices during the release of a film. On this issue, the film industry had also expressed its dissatisfaction. Several biggies from the industry had explained the situation to Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy and asked him to reconsider.
