Hyderabad: The 68th National Film Awards were announced on 22 July in Delhi. Surya's 'Soorarai Pottru' directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad was adjudged the best film. The awards were given in five categories. The award for the most film-friendly state has gone to Madhya Pradesh.
Suriya and Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn shared the best actor award this year for 'Soorarai Pottru' and 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior', respectively.
On Friday, a 10-member jury led by filmmaker Vipul Shah met information and broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur and submitted its report on the 68th National Film Awards. Speaking about the awards to ANI, Mr. Thakur said, "I want to congratulate all the jury members and all those people whose work was reviewed and would like to congratulate those recipients who will be awarded the National Film Awards. A word of appreciation for everyone who has done an outstanding job."
Aparna Balamurali, who played the leading lady in 'Soorarai Pottru', bagged the award for the best actress. It's a big time for the Tamil film industry as Tamil films won big at this year's awards.
Actor Biju Menon, who played one of the lead roles in 'Ayyapanum Koshiyum', won the best supporting actor award.
Meanwhile, the Telugu film 'Colour Photo' directed by Angirekula Sandeep Raj, the Marathi film 'Goshta Eka Paithanichi' (Tale of a Paithani) directed by Shantanu Ganesh Rode, Kannada film 'Dollu' directed by Sagar Puranik, and Hindi film 'Toolsidas Junior' directed by Mridul Toolsidass won the best feature film in each of the language specified in the Schedule VIII of the Constitution.
