Netflix reveals top global hits of 2023: Malayalam film Kaapa among most watched internationally

Topping the list is the gripping thriller web series The Night Agent, closely followed by Ginny and Georgia and The Glory. This comprehensive ranking covers nearly 99 per cent of Netflixās extensive content library and incorporates over 600 Indian titles across various positions.
Diversification of viewing habits
In a noteworthy revelation, the report showcases the growing influence of Indian content beyond Hindi, with a substantial representation of compelling movies in regional languages.
Notably, the Malayalam film Kaapa emerges as the most-streamed Malayalam movie, securing the 51st position among the most-watched Indian content. Produced by Yoodlee Films, Saregamaās cinema production arm, Kaapa features a stellar cast including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali, and Anna Ben in pivotal roles.
Directed by the veteran filmmaker Shaji Kailas, Kaapa delves into real incidents associated with the implementation of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention (KAAPA) Act in Thiruvananthapuram, Keralaās capital. The script, adapted from writer Indugopanās novel Shankhumukhi, was crafted by Jinu Abraham.
This recognition underscores the global appeal of Malayalam cinema, as Kaapa secures its place among other notable Malayalam films, including Minnal Murali, Thallumaala, Uyare, and Kurup. The inclusion of these films highlights the diverse and widespread viewership of regional Indian content on the international streaming platform.
