Morphed images and defamatory content
Counsel informed the court that several social media posts contained false information, morphed images and defamatory content.
The petitioners have also impleaded Flipkart, Amazon, X (formerly Twitter) and Google as defendants in the case.
Court urged to bring social media users to law
The defendants submitted that some of the disputed links had already been taken down. However, the court observed that the users who posted the links must be heard before any directions are issued for their removal.
The High Court further suggested that Instagram clearly mention disclaimers on posts shared by fan accounts. It also directed Google to either inform its customers about such violations or suspend the concerned accounts.
Additionally, the court ordered that BSI and IP login details be furnished within three weeks. The matter has been adjourned, with the next hearing scheduled for May 12.
