Hyderabad: A new poster from Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyan Selvan' was unveiled on 4 July and fans are going gaga over it. The poster features Chiyaan Vikram as Aditya Karikalan.
As per the latest update, the film will release in two installments. PS-1 is slated for a worldwide release on 30 September 2022. It will release in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
The magnum opus is based on Kalki's eponymous Tamil novel that was serialised in the 1950s and has remained a sensational success ever since. It will feature a stellar cast of Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarath Kumar, Vikram Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Prabhu, Parthiban, and Prakash Raj. The film is set in the 10th century and tracks the factional power struggles within the Chola Empire with enemies of the state acting as catalysts. The story is set in the tumultuous period before Ponniyin Selvan (son of River Kaveri), later known as Rajaraja Chola, became one of the greatest emperors in Indian history ushering in a golden age.
'Ponniyan Selvan' is one of the most awaited films from the Tamil film industry and of course, pan-India as well. With the film being a multi-starrer, filmmakers across India have their eyes on it. Also, it has been a long time since a Mani Ratnam film hit the screens. So, fans can't keep calm.
AR Rahman has scored the music for the film. Ravi Varman is the cinematographer, Thota Tharrani is the production designer, and Sreekar Prasad is the editor. Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions have promised more updates and news on the film in the coming week.
