Hyderabad: Farhan Akhtar has finally put an end to speculation surrounding the much-awaited third instalment in the Don franchise by officially announcing Don 3. The filmmaker shared a teaser on his socials, signalling the franchise’s return with the words, “A new era begins.”
On August 8, Farhan Akhtar unveiled a tantalising teaser across his official social media handles, sparking a wave of excitement and discussions within the virtual world. This teaser suggests the impending arrival of Don 3, a much-anticipated addition to a franchise that has captivated audiences for years.
However, Farhan Akhtar has chosen to keep the cast of the upcoming film under wraps. While no official information has been provided regarding the leading roles, reports suggest that Ranveer Singh might be taking over the role of Don from Shah Rukh Khan.
Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani originally acquired the rights to the iconic 1978 film Don, which originally starred Amitabh Bachchan. They subsequently remade the film with Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in lead roles, releasing Don in 2006. The franchise continued with Don 2 in 2011, where Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra reprised their roles.
However, the news of a ‘new era’ in the franchise has stirred some controversy among Shah Rukh Khan’s fans, as it implies that the actor might not be a part of the film, contrary to earlier rumours. Farhan Akhtar later confirmed Shah Rukh Khan’s departure from the project in an official statement.
“The time has now come to take the legacy of Don forward and joining us in this new interpretation will be an actor whose talent and versatility I have long admired it. We hope that you will show him the love you have so graciously and generously shown to Mr Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. A new era of Don begins in 2025,” he concluded.
Indeed, as per reliable reports, the teaser for Don 3 is slated to be unveiled online this week. A trusted source has revealed that the entire team is brimming with excitement to introduce Ranveer Singh as the new and dynamic face of Don to today’s contemporary cinema audience.
Moreover, the same source disclosed that the teaser for Don 3 is scheduled to grace the screens of movie theatres during Independence Day week, aligning with the release of Gadar 2, which stars Sunny Deol in the lead role.
