`Saani Kaayidham': A spine-chilling revenge drama aptly helmed by Keerthy Suresh, Selvaraghavan

Saani Kaayidham skipped a theatrical release and is streaming on Amazon Prime from today. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the film, starring Keerthy Suresh and Selvaraghavan is a revenge drama that has some amazing performances by the lead actors.

Story:

Maari (Kanna Ravi) and Ponni (Keerthy Suresh), who's a police constable, are leading a happy life with their daughter Dhana. Sangayya (Selvaraghavan) is Ponni's stepbrother and likes to take care of Dhana and he keeps meeting her regularly. One day, Maara gets into a fight with his boss at the rice mill and that ends in a dirty fight that costs him his life and his daughters. On the other hand, as a part of revenge, a group of men from the mill, who think they are superiors due to their caste and status, rape Ponni and try to kill her as well. When the judiciary fails in giving justice to Ponni, she decides to take revenge and her brother helps her execute the plan. What happens next is something that will leave you shocked.

This revenge drama will give you chills in your spine. It is all about how, in rural India, people are still stuck to the caste, creed, ego, and all that comes with their narrow-minded thought process, and how the families in the socially backward class have to pay for things that they don't deserve. It talks about how the accused can escape smoothly from the judiciary and victims have to suffer. Vengeance is the best form shown in the film. Director Arun Matheswaran tried to show the power of women. It could be love… or revenge, it will be extreme is what the film teaches you. Also, this one has a lot of violence which many people cannot stand, and probably that is the reason why the makers chose to release it on OTT. Music just elevates every scene and makes you glued to your seat.

Performances:

Keerthy Suresh's performance in this film will be her best to date. She went de-glam for this raw and rustic avatar. The way she depicted the performances is worth applause. She just got into the skin of her character and throughout the film, you will believe that Ponni exists in real life too. The man of the show is Selvaraghavan. This is his first-time full-fledged role in a movie and he stole the show. This popular director, who is known for making some amazing films, was seen at his best as Sangayya. Both these actors are the soul of the film. Undoubtedly, the director made sure the actors gave beyond their best for the film.

On the whole, Saani Kaayidham is worth a watch this weekend if you don't mind watching the spine-chilling violence.
