`Sardar' has all ingredients of love, comedy, action, emotion: Director Mithran on Karthi-starrer spy thriller

Director PS Mithran, who is popular for making films like Abhimanyudu and Shakti, is super happy as his third film `Sardar' is releasing today.

Starring Karthi Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan, the film will see the main protagonist playing a character of a spy.

On the occasion of its release, Mithran talked about the making of the film, script, story, and a lot more: Excerpts.

How did the idea of 'Sardar' strike?

I got the idea of Sardar while I was dubbing my first film 'Abhimanyudu'. I shared my idea with one of the writers on my team and started developing it. Later, I narrated this story to producer Laxman. He advised me to meet Karthi. Karthi liked the idea of 'Sardar' very much. He said that we are going to make this film without any other thought.

Going by trailer, 'Sardar' looks like a periodic movie?

This is a story set in the 1980s and the present day. In 1980, Indian intelligence tried to create a spy. But it is not so easy to turn a soldier into a spy. A spy must know how to act in disguise. So, instead, a stage actor was turned into a spy. It is a story based on a true incident. This incident is an inspiration for Sardar's story. It is inspired by some true events.

Karthi is seen in two roles in the trailer?

Karthi's role in this film will be very surprising. Karthi will be seen in two different roles as father and son. One character is completely different from another. The spy character does not seek any recognition and the outside world is unaware of his existence. Another character wants publicity for every little thing. Both these characters are very interesting to watch on screen.

How was it working with Karthi?

Karthi is the best actor I have ever worked with. He is very dedicated. He also shares many ideas that are useful for the film. His latest film `PS1' was a huge success. I believe his success journey would continue with Sardar.

Karthi has done varied roles and his films have been entertaining. How is Sardar different?

Sardar is a movie like a full meal with all flavors. It has all the ingredients of love, comedy, action, strong emotion, and social concepts. The film will entertain all sections of the audience.

Many movies are being released for Diwali. There is also a Sivakarthikeyan movie in Tamil. How does it feel?

Earlier, when I had done a film with Sivakarthikeyan, it was released along with Karthi's film. This time too, Sivakarthikeyan's movie will be released along with Karthi's movie. Tricky (Laughs). But both are different and unique in their way. I wish all the movies coming on Diwali bag blockbusters at the box office.
