`She is a sweetheart': Varalaxmi Sarathkumar on working with Samantha in `Yashoda'

Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has been busy. She has been working on back-to-back Telugu films. She played Jayamma in Ravi Teja's `Krack' and this character made her star overnight in the Telugu film industry. Since then, she's been so busy in Tollywood. She even shifted to Hyderabad from Chennai.

The actor is playing one of the lead roles in Samantha-starrer Yashoda' which is all set to hit the screens on November 11. Popularly called a firebrand, the actor spoke to spoke NewsMeter about his journey.

Telugu films are keeping you too busy nowadays. How has working in Tollywood been?

I am enjoying working in the Telugu industry. I never really had to look back to think if I was doing the right thing. Writers are writing characters keeping me in their minds. That makes me so glad. Krack has given me a break in the industry here. I played such a positive role in Naandi, and I covered almost all kinds of genres in Telugu. I am so busy with the films here that I have shifted to Hyderabad now.

I think you have been carefully choosing scripts. Was it a conscious decision?

It is not a conscious decision. Just happened. The kind of roles I was being offered just changed over the period. Thanks to writers who are writing such good ones for me. Also, when scripts come to me, I don't say yes to everything. Only if I can connect to those, and then I feel even audiences can also connect, that's when I say yes to those roles.

How important is your character in Yashoda?

It is as important as Samantha's. I play a lead role that is parallel to hers. Her role will be complete only because someone is playing the opposite and that's me. I play the head of a facility that looks into surrogate mothers.

Surrogacy is back in the headlines and Yashoda is releasing exactly at the same time. What do have to say about it?

Surrogacy has become quite common in India now. Not just because of Nayanthara. Many actors in Bollywood and other industries too had babies through surrogacy. Actors and celebrities also have a life and people should stop focusing on everything that is happening in actors' lives.

Samantha recently announced she's suffering from Myositis. You know her for a long time too. How was working with such a fighter?

She is amazing. She gave her best to the film though she was not well. Knowing her for a long time, I am sure she will bounce back sooner and she will be stronger. Working with someone like her is always a great experience. She is a sweetheart!
