Telangana to present Gaddar Awards for Tollywood films, artistes; ceremony likely on Ugadi

Hyderabad: The Telangana Film Development Corporation (TFDC) has invited entries for the newly created Gaddar Film Awards to Tollywood films and film personalities from this year.

A Government Order to this effect was issued on Tuesday to finalise the guidelines for the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards, which are likely to be presented on Ugadi.

As per the GO, the awards would be presented in various categories, which include Feature Films, National Integration Film, Children’s Film, Film on Environment/Heritage/History, Debut Feature Film, Animated Film, Social Impact Film, Documentary Films and Short Films. The other categories include books and analytical essays on Telugu cinema and individual awards for artists and technicians.

Special awards to honour the legacy of Paidi Jayaraj and Kanta Rao

The government has also decided to introduce special awards in honour of legendary figures Paidi Jayaraj and Kanta Rao, who made significant contributions to Telangana cinema. Additionally, the M Prabhakar Reddy Popular Film Award will continue as per tradition.

Since the previous Telangana State Government did not announce film awards from 2014 to 2023, the government has decided to honour one outstanding film per year for those years.

‘Gaddar awards will replace Nandi awards’

TFDC chairman Dil Raju said that the Gaddar awards will replace the Nandi awards, which were presented to artistes in undivided Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy emphasised that the awards ceremony should be held on par with events held at the national level and instructed officials to make the required arrangements.

Applications for the Gaddar Film Awards will be available from March 13 at the Telangana Film Development Corporation office located in AC Guards, Hyderabad. The CM encouraged filmmakers and industry professionals to submit their entries.
