Hyderabad: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has come out with a list of 301 feature films eligible for Oscars 2023. Indian films 'RRR,' 'GangubaiKathiawadi,' 'The Kashmir Files,' and 'Kantara' have made the cut.

Pan Nalin's 'Chhello Show' (Last Film Show), India's official Oscar entry, also features in the list along with Marathi titles 'Me Vasantrao' and 'Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi,' R Madhavan's 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect,' Tamil film 'Iravin Nizhal,' and Kannada movie 'Vikrant Rona.'

It must be noted that the reminder list includes movies that can officially compete in various categories. Merely featuring in the list does not guarantee that the film will advance in the final nominations of the Academy Awards, to be announced on 24 January.

From 12 January, the 9,579 members who are eligible to vote will start filling out their ballots. On 17 January, the procedure will be finished, and on 24 January, the Oscar nominees will be made public.

Vivek Agnihotri took to Twitter and reacted to the list. He tweeted, "BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: #TheKashmirFiles has been shortlisted for #Oscars2023 in the first list of @TheAcademy. It's one of the 5 films from India. I wish all of them very best. A great year for Indian cinema."

Hombale Films, the production house behind 'Kantara,' also reacted to 'Kantara' featuring in the list of 301 movies. "We are overjoyed to share that 'Kantara' has received 2 Oscar qualifications! A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us. We look forward to share this journey ahead with all of your support," they tweeted.

But all eyes are on Rajamouli's 'RRR.' Starring Ram Charan Tej and Jr. NTR, the film has the support not only of Indian fans but it has been getting massive support from international audiences. The track "Naatu Naatu" has been shortlisted in the Best Original Song Category.
