Veteran actress Jamuna passed away at her residence on Friday in Hyderabad. She was 86. Born as Jana Bai in Hampi in 1936 August, the actress’ family moved to Duggirala, Guntur where she grew up. Jamuna acted in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam. It was with ‘Missamma’ released in 1955 that Jamuna got noticed. The film was made by L V Prasad.
Later, she even forayed into politics and was elected MP from the Rajahmundry constituency in the 1989 elections. Jamuna was a popular face in the industry and has acted in many films with NT Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
Some of her well-known films include 'Puttillu' made in 1952, 'Tenali Ramakrishna', ‘Ma Inti Mahalakshmi', 'Gundamma Katha', 'Collector Janaki', 'Sri Krishna Tulabaram' and 'Poolarangadu'. She last appeared in Ammammagari Manavadu (2021). The film industry mourns the demise of the veteran actress. Many celebrities expressed their deepest condolences to her family. The mortal remains will be taken to Film Chamber for public homage. The last rites will be performed by the end of the day.
