Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday allowed movie theatres to increase the ticket prices of some films.
Theatre owners had recently asked the state government to hike the ticket prices. They had requested permission to increase the ticket prices of big-budget films like 'Akhanda', 'RRR', and 'Pushpa' by Rs. 50 per ticket.
Receiving no response from the government, the theatre owners had approached the Telangana High Court. The court heard their petition on Wednesday and issued interim orders allowing an increase of Rs. 50 per ticket.
A lawyer representing the theatres during the hearing said the government was not responding to the matter. But now it has been confirmed that the ticket prices for big movies will be increased.
The Telangana High Court on Wednesday permitted film exhibitors to increase prices of tickets of upcoming Telugu movies, including 'RRR', 'Bheemla Nayak', 'Akhanda', 'Pushpa', and 'Radhe Shyam', by Rs. 50. The exhibitors took the legal recourse after the state government put their plea on hold. Tickets for 'RRR' will be sold for up to Rs. 250, while those for 'Bheemla Nayak', 'Pushpa', and 'Radhe Shyam' will be available for Rs. 200. The minimum price of a ticket would be Rs. 50.
