Hyderabad: Veteran Bollywood actor Javed Khan Amrohi, who starred in the popular hit DD serial ‘Nukkad’ and films like ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Chak De! India,’ passed away due to lung failure at a private hospital in Santacruz, Mumbai, on Tuesday.
He reportedly suffered from breathing problems and was bedridden for the past year.
The actor was in his early 70s.
Javed played pivotal roles in ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke’ (1993), ‘Andaaz Apna Apna’ (1994), ‘Ishq’ (1997), ‘Lagaan’ (2001), and ‘Chak De! India’ (2007) to name a few. His last big screen appearance was as Pakya in the 2020 ‘Sadak 2’ which featured Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sanjay Dutt.
Apart from movies, Javed also worked on TV series such as ‘Mirza Ghalib,’ directed by Gulzar, and as Karim (the barber) in ‘Nukkad,’ directed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza in the 1980s.
