Hyderabad: South Indian films have been the toast of the season. Especially, the Tamil Film Industry has been churning out some great pan-Indian flicks in recent times. Films like 'Ponniyin Selvan', 'Vikram', etc received a huge positive response not in the Tamil state but also in the worldwide markets.

People have been expecting even more of such great content-driven films from Kollywood. Even in 2023, some most-awaited Tamil movies are lined up.

Here is a list of films that people are eagerly waiting for.

Thalapathy Vijay's Leo

The south audience fell in love with Lokesh Kanagaraj's cinema and has been craving for more. After Karthi's 'Khaidi' and Kamal Hassan's 'Vikram', 'Leo' is set to mark the 3rd movie in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe. Starring Thalapathy Vijay, 'Leo' revolves around a gangster. The film also marks the second collaboration of Vijay with Lokesh Kanagaraj after 'Master'.

The makers unveiled the teaser of the film on February 3 which needless to say went viral on the internet. Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priya Anand, Mysskin, Mansoor Ali Khan, etc are playing crucial roles in this film which is gearing up for a grand release on October 19 this year.

Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 2

'Ponniyin Selvan 2' which is the much-awaited sequel of ace director Mani Ratnam's 2022-released magnum opus, 'Ponniyin Selvan' is all set to hit the screens on April 28, this year. The movie is expected to recreate the same magic as the first installment which became the Tamil cinema's all-time highest-grossing film. Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, etc are reprising their roles in PS 2.

Rajinikanth's Jailer

Billed to be a dark comedy thriller, Rajinikanth joined hands with director Nelson Dilipkumar for 'Jailer' which is set to hit the theaters in August this year. Rajinikanth will be seen as Muthuvel Pandian, a prison officer in the film which features a special appearance of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal as well. Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar is the main antagonist in the movie. Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi, Vinayakan, etc play supporting roles in the film.

Kamal Haasan's Indian 2

Starring legendary actor, Kamal Haasan, his ambitious project Indian 2 is currently in the works. Being helmed by star director S Shankar the film is a sequel to the 1996-released cult classic, 'Indian'. The shooting is currently in the final stages. The film is expected to hit theaters by the second half of 2023.
