Youtuber BeerBiceps Ranveer Allahbadia faces backlash for distasteful diatribe on comedian Samay Raina
Hyderabad: YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBiceps, is facing severe backlash after making an inappropriate remark on comedian Samay Rainaās YouTube reality show Indiaās Got Latent. His comment, which many found distasteful, has sparked outrage across social media platforms.
What Led to the Controversy?
During a recent episode of Indiaās Got Latent, Allahbadia posed a highly inappropriate question to a contestant, asking: āWould you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?ā
While his fellow panelists, including Samay Raina, laughed at the question, many viewers were left shocked. A clip of the moment quickly spread across social media, with netizens criticizing both Allahbadia and the show for promoting such content.
Reactions from the Public and Industry Figures
Notable personalities, including journalist and lyricist Neelesh Misra, strongly condemned the remark. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Misra wrote: āPerverted creators are shaping our countryās creative economy. This content is not designated as adult contentāit can easily be accessed by children if the algorithm pushes it. The creators and platforms show zero sense of responsibility. I am also not surprised that four people at the deskāand many in the audienceāfound this funny and applauded it.ā
Misra further criticized the larger trend of insensitive content being normalized, stating: āDecency is not incentivized in Indiaāby platforms or audiences. Creators are stooping lower and lower for reach and revenue. Banal, crass, and insensitive are words only for boring, uncool people. These creators say anything in the name of freedom of speech and get away with it.ā
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate echoed Misraās sentiments, adding: āThis is not creative. Itās perverse. And we canāt normalize perverse behavior as cool. The fact that this sick comment met loud applause must worry us all.ā
Calls for Accountability
Many social media users also brought up Allahbadiaās past recognition at the National Creator Awards, where he received the Disruptor of the Year award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. One critic questioned:
āHe was honored as āDisruptor of the Yearā by the Prime Minister. Now, after making such vile, incestuous remarks, will that award be revoked? Or do these accolades come with zero accountability?ā
Another user raised concerns over the lack of regulation for such content on YouTube: ā@BeerBicepsGuy, shame on you! Requesting @MIB_India to review these unregulated shows that promote vulgarity and cheap entertainment.ā
Controversial Remarks on Kerala
Allahbadia also received criticism for a separate remark about Keralaās high literacy rate. A tweet highlighted this, stating: āRanveer finds it hilarious to mock Keralaāwhy? Because of literacy? Makes sense, considering itās primarily Malayalees who fact-check and debunk his misinformation and hate-fueled narratives.ā
Ongoing Controversies Around Indiaās Got Latent
This is not the first time Indiaās Got Latent has sparked controversy. Recently, a complaint was filed against a contestant from Arunachal Pradesh over a remark about dog meat consumption. Critics argue that the show consistently crosses ethical boundaries in pursuit of views and engagement.
Ranveer Allahbadia issues apology amid backlash
Ranveer Allahbadia has apologized for making inappropriate remarks on Samay Rainaās show, Indiaās Got Latent. Facing widespread criticism, he admitted his lapse in judgment, stating, āMy comment wasnāt just inappropriate; it wasnāt even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry.ā
He further acknowledged the responsibility of his platform, adding, āI have realized the importance of utilizing this platform in a more responsible mannerā¦ I hope that, as a fellow human being, you can find it in your hearts to forgive me.ā
Amid the backlash, an official complaint has been filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Womenās Commission, demanding action against him.
