Hyderabad : An exchange of fire between Telangana police and banned CPI maoist cadres were reported from different parts of the state on late Tuesday . Following the incidents, Telangana police have beefed up the vigil in the bordering districts of Komaram Bheem , Asifabad, Mulugu and Bhadradri Kothagudem.

Cops have intensified combing operations along with armed forces. While this is the second incident occurred in less than a week’s time in Asifabad district, no casualties were reported from both sides.

Based on a tip off on the movement of maoist cadres in forest areas in Tiryani mandal in Komaram Bheem, Asifabad district, police teams launched a search operation on Tuesday night. A couple of hours later, they came face to face with maoist cadres, armed with the latest weapons. Upon spotting the cops, maoist opened fire while the police retaliated, sources said.

While darkness played against the cops, maoist managed to give a slip to the police and reportedly escaped into the deep forest areas. It is suspected that there were top district and division level cadres among those who escaped in the exchange of fire. Police also found that they were in possession of AK47 and SLR weapons.

Following the incident, a massive hunt has been launched in the forest area and an immediate alert was sounded all over the state. Meanwhile, forces launched a search operation on Wednesday morning in the thick forest areas near Manuguru in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, with a huge strength of around 500 armed personnel. During the operation, Maoists opened fire on the forces and escaped into the dense forest leaving behind their material.

Telangana police pressed in additional force and began search operation. 'With a suspicion that they could head towards the forest areas located in the bordering Mulugu and Mahabubabad districts, a search operation has been launched in these districts also.
