Excise inspector caught smuggling liquor during lockdown in East Godavari district, suspended
By Newsmeter Network Published on 30 March 2020 6:38 AM GMTRajahmundry: Excise Minister K Narayana Swami on Monday suspended inspector of Anaparthi Excise Station Reddi Trinadh for smuggling liquor bottles during the lockdown.
Trinadh was apprehended when he was transporting the liquor bottles in his car. Sources said he was smuggling the liquor bottles for sale.
Excise Minister K Narayana suspended Inspector Trinadh and also slapped a fine of Rs 5 lakh on him. The minister said they will initiate departmental action against Trinadh for tarnishing the image of the department.
Police said some people working with the excise department are selling liquor during the lockdown at higher prices to some specific customers. Police noted that they will deploy more cops near the government liquor vends to prevent possible burglaries during the lockdown.
It may be recalled that the AP government has shut down liquor shops, bars, and restaurants from March 22 following the outbreak of coronavirus. The decision has been taken to prevent the spread of the Covid-19.
