Facing financial problems, Hyderabad techie sets himself on fire

Hyderabad: Lockdown seems to have claimed another casualty after a 34-year-old techie allegedly committed suicide by setting himself on fire at Kondapur in the IT corridor of Hyderabad on Monday.

Identified as K Purinder Reddy, he was suffering from depression. His wife Kalpana told the police that he was facing financial and other issues. She noted that the lockdown had also taken a toll on his financial situation.

Hailing from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, Purinder had married Kalpana three years ago, but the couple had no children. Even before marriage, he was suffering from depression and preferred to stay alone most of the time. His wife told the police that he often felt upset that they could settle in life and their financial situation is not getting better even after working hard.

On Monday morning, he left home informing him that he has some work. Sometime later, he sent a message to his friend Bandaram Manohar saying that he is having too many issues. When he called up Purinder, he came to know that he had set himself ablaze. He informed his wife and when she rushed to the spot he was already dead.

Madhapur police registered a case and started the investigation.
