Fact Check: Audio clip claiming 59 new Covid-19 positive cases in Nagpur?

Hyderabad: An audio clip has been in circulation in the social media, especially in WhatsApp. In that clip, two men could be heard talking to each other that 59 new COVID-19 positive patients have been reported in Nagpur.

One man could be heard saying that out of the 59, three who have tested positive for Coronavirus are doctors and one of the doctors has been put on the ventilator.

This audio clip had triggered widespread panic across the nation, especially in Maharashtra.

Fact Check:

The claims made on the audio clip by the man are FALSE.

We found that Press Information Bureau (PIB) has stated that the audio clip in circulation is FALSE. PIB Fact check shared a tweet saying "An audio clip is circulating on social media claiming that Nagpur has tested 59 positive coronavirus cases including 3 doctors The assertion made in the audio is #FAKE. Please DO NOT forward such fake audio clips."



According to the official reports released by Maharashtra Government, Nagpur has five COVID positive cases till date.

Maharashtra government investigated the origin of this audio and has arrested 3 people in this case. According to the report by https://nagpurtoday.in, cyber cell of Maharashtra cracked the case and zeroed down 3 culprits who were arrested in the early hours of Friday (March 27, 2020).
