Fact Check
NewsMeter has found these claims to be false since autoimmune thyroid and hyperthyroidism require medicine for cure.
Thyroid disorders are the most common endocrine disorders, with around 42 million Indian population suffering from thyroid diseases. Thyroid is the common name used for terming different conditions that affect the functions of the thyroid.
Dr Shiva Raju, senior consultant and diabetologist at KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad said, āThe condition of thyroid can occur for reasons including autoimmune damage, iodine deficiency, nodules in the thyroid gland, rarely due to cancer and drugs.ā
He also said that the suggestions were made without understanding the pathophysiology and reasons behind the thyroid problems.
āThyroid cannot be cured in 14 days and such juice mix cannot help in thyroid cure. There is no scientific evidence of data to support this claim,ā Dr Shiva Raju said.
The symptoms of thyroid disorder include fatigue, weight gain, depressed mood, anxiety, irregular menstrual cycle, sweaty skin, intolerance towards heat and cold, and breathing issues among others.
Medications required to stop thyroid progression
The types of thyroid disorders include hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism while Graveās disease, Plummer disease, toxic adenoma, thyroid nodules and cancer are other reasons.
Dr G Sandeep Reddy, consultant, and endocrinologist at Kamineni Hospital, Hyderabad said, āAmong the several thyroid types, hypothyroidism is the most common one. When the thyroid gland gets damaged, these suggested diets cannot help. Only continuous medications will help those affected.ā
The condition of hyperthyroidism, when the gland produces more hormones than the requirement of the body can be treated only by regular medications.
āRegular sleep for 8 hours, proper diet and medications can restrict the progression of thyroid. There is no role for diet in hypothyroidism as well. In some cases, subclinical thyroid can reduce by itself,ā Dr Sandeep Reddy said.
