Fact Check: Reduce weight by drinking concoction of green apple, cinnamon sticks and turmeric? Here’s the truth
Claim: A herbal concoction prepared with green apple, cinnamon sticks and turmeric powder can reduce weight.
Fact: The claim is false. The ingredients have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties but cannot result in permanent weight reduction.

Hyderabad: An Instagram video has gone viral with a herbal recipe that promises to bring weight loss in three days in the lines of a liposuction treatment.

The video suggests drinking water strained from boiling sliced green apples with cinnamon sticks in 300 ml water and turmeric powder.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim was false. Green apples, cinnamon sticks and turmeric have anti-inflammatory properties but do not possess any capacity to reduce weight.

Dr Kavya Dendukuri, lead consultant hepatologist and gastroenterologist, at Kamineni Hospitals, said, “This drink or any other drink cannot result in weight loss. Any temporary weight reduction would be due to the temporary loss of water from the body. The ingredients used have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties but cannot result in permanent weight loss.”

Green apples, with high amounts of potassium, fibre and low calories can help with vital functions. However, the process of weight loss requires sustained effort, including a balanced diet and physical workout.

“Weight loss is a consistent program and is never temporary. An individual has to consume a meal mixed with high protein, fibre and carbohydrate which are low in quantity and low in fat,” Dr Kavya added.
