Hyderabad: A Facebook user recently shared two photos of a large convoy and claimed that the Karni Sena left for Maharashtra to show support for actress Kangana Ranaut.
The Facebook user had posted the photos on a public group for fans of TV reporter Sudhir Chaudhary on 9 September. The group has over 7,99,000 members. The viral post has received over 40,000 reactions and 7,300 comments.
Old pictures shared with FALSE claims.
On Wednesday, members of the Karni Sena had reached Mumbai in support of Kangana Ranaut but the viral pictures are not related to the event. These photos have been online for years.
There was a tussle between the Shiv Sena and Kangana after the actress compared Mumbai to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). Rajya Sabha MP and Sena leader Sanjay Raut, in his weekly editorial in Saamana, wrote that if Kangana feels unsafe in Mumbai, then she should not come to the city to criticise the Mumbai police. In response to this, Kangana said she would come to Mumbai on 9 September and challenged anyone to stop her. Before Kangana arrived in Mumbai, she was also given Y Plus security by the Central government.
According to The Week, Jeevan Solanki of Karni Sena had said, "Karni Sena will be present at Mumbai airport on 9 September to support Kangana Ranaut. Karni Sena members will be protecting and escorting Kangana Ranaut from the airport to her home."
We do not know if members of the Karni Sena reached Mumbai to support the actress and no images of the event are available.
NewsMeter performed a Google reverse image search and found that the viral photos have been circulating on social media for the past three-four years. The first photo was shared in March 2016 on the official Twitter handle of former Rajasthan deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot. He said it was his convoy.
The second photo was shared by a social media user in 2017.
Hence, this proves that old photos are being shared on social media with FALSE claims.
