Fact Check: Viral picture of old man aiming stone at cop dates back to 2013

Hyderabad: A picture of an old man aiming a stone at a gun-wielding cop has gone viral on social media.

Social media users posted the picture with a caption: "Don't kill me with bullets. I am already a miserable person; the reason behind my death is that I am a farmer by profession #KishanVirodhiNarendraModi."

The first post was from the Twitter account of Shakuntala Sahu MLA. Later it was shared by Mumbai Youth Congress, Delhi Youth Congress and others. The picture is used to hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. All the Twitter handles belong to the Congress party with a hashtag #kishanVirodhiNarendraModi.

Fact Check:

The claim that the viral image of farmers protest is recent is FALSE. The picture shown in the viral post is seven years old and has nothing to do with the ongoing farmer protest.

Through a Google Reverse Search Image, Newsmeter found that the photo was taken in September 2013 in Khera village of Meerut, UP.

At that time, BJP MLA Sangeet Som was arrested in connection with the Muzaffarnagar riots and he was booked under the National Security Act (NSA).

A large number of people gathered protesting his arrest. There were also reports of throwing stones at the cops. Many people including police officers were injured in the violence. aiming stone

The picture is seven years old, and it has nothing to do with the ongoing farmer movement.

This fact was previously done by The Logical Indian in 2018.

Hence, the claim is FALSE.
