The claim comes after Mr. Nath visited Bageshwar Dham in the Chhatarpur district on 13 February and met the controversial self-styled godman Dhirendra Shastri.
Fact Check
NewMeter found that the statement was made ahead of the 2018 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.
We ran a keyword search and found the same video published by several news outlets in 2018. ABP News published an extended version of the video on 22 November 2018 titled āKamal Nathās Video Seeking āMuslim Votesā Creates Controversy.ā
āWe need to find out why only 50-60 per cent of Muslims voted for us in the last election. If we donāt get 90% of the Muslim communityās votes, it will be a great loss for us,ā Mr. Nath can be heard saying.
NDTV published the same video on 21 November 2018, titled āControversy Over Kamal Nathās Video On Muslim Votes.ā It said the video was in circulation weeks before the Madhya Pradesh election.
It is evident that the viral video dates back to 2018. We conclude that the former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath did not make the statement seeking 90% Muslim votes after visiting Dhirendra Shastri in Bageshwar Dham. Hence, the claim is misleading.
