HYDERABAD: An Image of President Ram Nath Kovind touching his forehead with his hand and bowing down is viral on social media. Users claim President was bowing down to the UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
The claim is false.
President was not bowing down to Yogi Adityanath but was paying his respects to his native village Paraunkh in Uttar Pradesh.
The official handle of the President tweeted the image on June 27 with the caption: "In a rare emotional gesture, after landing at the helipad near his village, Paraunkh of Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh, President Ram Nath Kovind bowed and touched the soil to pay obeisance to the land of his birth".
It was also reported by the Hindustan Times, Free Press Journal and Times of India. The reports state that President Ram Nath Kovind visited his native village Paraunkh and bowed and touched the ground to pay respect to the land of his birth.
While addressing a Jan Abhinandan Samaroh in his village, the President remembered his background and said that Paraunkh was not just a village, but was his motherland, from where he drew inspiration. In a video that covers the entire address, Kovind said, "And that's why when I got down from the helicopter today, the first thing I did was to pay obeisance to my motherland and bow down to her".
