Hyderabad: Amid reports of clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan along the border, a video has gone viral on X showing a Pakistan army officer visibly emotional while addressing a gathering. The video is being shared with the claim that it shows the officer breaking down after an attack by the Afghan forces.
One such post reads, “The Afghans have beaten the Pakistan Army very badly...Pakistanis can’t stop their tears.” (Archive)
NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading. The video does not show a Pakistani officer reacting to the recent Afghanistan–Pakistan conflict. It shows the officer becoming emotional while remembering soldiers killed in an IED blast in Balochistan last month.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a Facebook post, dated September 17, which carried the same footage. The caption stated that the video shows respect being paid to a person named Capt Waqar Ahmad Kakar.
The caption read, “Capt Waqar Ahmad Kakar 142 L/C ex 47 Cav, 135 W Ghaznabad Scouts FC Balochistan, along with four of his wing’s soldiers, embraced martyrdom in an IED attack in Balochistan. He was born in Balochistan and embraced martyrdom in Balochistan. He was about to be posted out from FC Balochistan.
The Company Commander grew deeply emotional while remembering the life and supreme sacrifice of Capt Waqar Kakar Shaheed. Losing a brother-in-arms is never easy the pain runs deep, but his courage and sacrifice will forever remain an inspiration.”
This post indicates that the clip was recorded during a remembrance event, not after any cross-border clash.
The viral clip contains on-screen text in which the speaker says, “Captain Waqar was a physically fit officer. And wherever the troops/soldiers went with him, he always led them from the front. He was a very hardworking and kind officer… And Allah Almighty granted him with Shahadat. May Allah the Almighty bless him with Paradise.”
Using this information, we found reports from Balochistan Pulse and India Today which stated that, on September 15, an IED explosion occurred in the Shand area of Mand, Balochistan, killing five Pakistani soldiers, including Captain Waqar Ahmad Kakar. According to the reports, the vehicle carrying the soldiers was on routine patrol when it was hit by the blast. However, the reports did not directly refer to the video.
While NewsMeter could not independently identify the officer or verify who was behind the IED blast, the available evidence confirmed that the video has been online since September 2025 and is unrelated to any recent clash between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The viral video showing a Pakistan army officer crying has been on the internet since September 2025, and so has no link to the current Afghanistan-Pakistan clashes. Hence, the claim is misleading.
