Hyderabad: Social media users are sharing a letter purportedly written by the Defence Ministry to the chiefs of the Indian Armed Forces. It discusses the revised service terms and tenure for newly enrolled jawans, airmen, and sailors under the Agnipath scheme.
According to the letter, ORs who attested after January 1, 2019, and those who are not promoted to a substantive rank of Naik or equivalent by July 1, 2022, will be kept under the Agnipath Scheme.

I only hope that this letter👇is fake otherwise the repurcussions are going to be very serious. It would invite endless litigation. pic.twitter.com/3GNHLnVtot
The Government of India recently announced the Agnipath scheme for recruiting soldiers across the tri-services. It has also released the first recruitment notification under this scheme.
Furthermore, there are no reports that recruits who enrolled after January 1, 2019, and were not promoted to a substantive rank of Naik or equivalent will be integrated into the Agnipath scheme. If this news is true, the media would have covered it. However, we were unable to locate any such reports. Even when the scheme was announced, officials made no mention of the claim.
Notably, we also did not find any MK Ramanna's name on the list of officials working at the Defence Ministry.
PIB also clarified that the letter is fake through a tweet saying that Defence Ministry has not issued this letter.
