Four images have been circulating on social media, claiming that PM Modi changed outfits four times during his Ahmedabad visit following the plane crash.
Claim:PM Modi changed outfits four times during his visit to Ahmedabad following the recent Air India plane crash.
Fact:The claim is false. The two images from the crash site and hospital show PM Modi wearing the same outfit during his Ahmedabad visit. The other two images are from separate incidents in 2022 and 2023, unrelated to the recent crash.

Hyderabad: On June 13, prime minister Narendra Modi visited the Air India crash site in Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad, accompanied by Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and Civil Aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu. He reviewed rescue operations and later met the sole survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.

In this context, four images of PM Modi are circulating on social media, claiming he changed outfits four times during his visit to the Ahmedabad plane crash site. The first image shows him at the crash site near the plane’s tail, hanging against a building. The second shows him reviewing documents beside railway tracks. In the third, he stands near a silver-coloured bridge pillar, and the fourth shows him meeting Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor, at the hospital.

One X user shared the collage with the caption, “Modi, yesterday, while expressing deep condolences for the Ahmedabad plane crash incident, changed clothes 4 times. The great man changed clothes 4 times during a single visit yesterday…” (Translated from Hindi) (Archive)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. Two of the images are indeed from PM Modi’s Ahmedabad visit, where he is seen wearing the same outfit, while the other two are old and unrelated, taken during different events.

Reverse image searches of both images led us to an NDTV report published on June 13, titled ‘PM Modi Visits Ahmedabad Plane Crash Site, Meets Lone Survivor At Hospital.’ The report featured a video showing him wearing the same white kurta-pyjama with a shawl at both the crash site and the hospital.

ANI and Reuters Asia also published videos on June 13 of PM Modi’s visit to the crash site and the hospital, which show him wearing the same outfit at both locations.

A reverse image search of the photo showing PM Modi reviewing documents led us to June 2023 reports by The Times of India and News18, which featured the same image. According to these reports, the image was taken during his visit to the accident site of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express (12841), which had entered the wrong track just before the crash at Bahanaga Bazar station in Odisha’s Balasore district.

The Times of India also reported that the preliminary investigation revealed over 280 deaths and around 900 injuries in the train accident.

A reverse image search of this photo led us to reports published by Hindustan Times and Sky News in November 2022.

According to these reports, the image shows PM Modi visiting the accident site in Morbi, Gujarat, after the collapse of a British-era bridge that claimed 135 lives.

Therefore, we conclude that the claim is false. The two images from the crash site and hospital show PM Modi wearing the same outfit during his Ahmedabad visit after the plane crash. The other two images are from separate incidents in 2022 and 2023, unrelated to the recent crash.
