Fact: The claim is false. The video shows a pre-election rally by Tahir Hussain. The AIMIM candidate was only allowed to be out of jail till February 3.
Hyderabad: The Delhi Assembly election results were declared on February 8. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 48 seats and returned to power in Delhi after 27 years.
Tahir Hussain—who was jailed in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots—contested from the Mustafabad constituency under an AIMIM ticket. He secured 33,474 votes and lost the election to the BJP candidate.
A video of a roadshow is circulating on social media with the claim that Tahir Hussain took out a road show, as a display of power, even after losing in the recent Delhi elections. In the video, Tahir Hussain can be seen standing on a vehicle waving to people in nearby buildings while a large crowd moves the rally forward.
The video was shared on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “The people of Mustafabad have given 30 thousand votes to Tahir Hussain, the accused in Delhi riots. And even after losing, he is taking out a procession.” (Translated from Hindi) (Archive)
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The viral video is of a pre-election rally by the AIMIM candidate Tahir Hussain.
Using reverse image search of the videos keyframes we found the same video shared by an X user on February 7, 2025, with the caption, “Prayers are needed all my brothers and sisters pray. InshaAllah, Mustafaabad and Okhla will win both seats.” (Translated from Hindi)
Another X user also shared the video on February 6, 2025, two days before the election results were announced. The video was uploaded with the caption, “I need all the prayers, brother and sister, please pray for me.”
Similarly, the video was shared by several social media users before the Delhi election results were announced. The videos were also uploaded on YouTube (here and here) before the election results were announced.
A video shared on Tahir Hussain’s Instagram profile on February 3 showed the same people from the viral video. The comparison of both video that revealed their similarities can be seen below.
On the same day, another video was uploaded on Tahir Hussain’s Instagram account with the caption “AIMIM Mustafabad candidate Haji Tahir Hussain Sahab meeting his family before going back to jail after campaigning today.”
According to a February 3, 2025, report by ABPLive, “The Supreme Court had granted custody parole to Tahir Hussain to campaign till February 3. Before the end of the election campaign and going to jail, Tahir Hussain took out a roadshow in the Mustafabad area on Monday.”
Tahir Hussain was granted custody parole from January 29 to February 3 by the Supreme Court to canvass votes in the Mustafabad constituency.
After ending his campaign with a roadshow on February 3, Tahir Hussain was sent back to jail. He couldn’t have taken out a roadshow after the election results as he would likely be in custody at that time. Therefore, NewsMeter concludes that the viral video was shot before the declaration of the Delhi election results.
