Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The image is AI-generated and does not show a real incident.
To verify the claim, NewsMeter first analysed the image for visual authenticity. The scene appeared overly stylised, with uniform lighting and hyper-detailed flames and smoke. These elements lacked the natural inconsistencies typical of real crash scenes, such as debris, structural damage or atmospheric distortion. This raised initial suspicion that the image was artificially generated.
We then ran the image through Hive Moderation and Sightengine, an AI detection tool, which returned a 99.9 per cent likelihood that the image is AI-generated or a deepfake.
Therefore, the image being shared is AI-generated and does not depict a real aviation incident.
