HYDERABAD: Earlier this month, a biker hurled an explosive at the AKG Center in Kerala. Soon after, the police began an investigation to track down the attacker.

Social media users claimed that the culprit has been found. Netizens began sharing a post that reads, "AKG center attack: A CPM worker from Venjaramoodu was arrested and police registered a case under the Prevention of Use of Explosives Act."

It has been attributed to Kerala media outlet 'Media One'.


FACT CHECK:

Firstly, NewsMeter checked Media One's website to confirm if they published such a post. No news on a CPM worker from Venjaramoodu being arrested was published by the media outlet. Media One has said the viral post is fake.


At the time of writing the article, no individual has been arrested for the crime. However, a suspect was taken into custody. Riju, a construction worker from

Anthiyoorkonam was taken into custody the day after the attack over suspected involvement in the AKG Center attack but later was booked for a social media case. The police did not recover any evidence to prove that he was nearby the center at the time of the attack. (Read reports here and here)

According to The New Indian Express, the attacker came from Kunnukuzhy side and threw the explosive, which hit the boundary wall and exploded. Police have scoured the CCTV visuals collected from various areas in the city. However, they are yet to ascertain the identity of the attacker or the real registration number of the vehicle.
