What is cellulite?
According to Healthline, āCellulite occurs when the skin overlying certain areas of fat is pulled downward to the deeper tissues by connective tissue bands. This creates an uneven surface.ā āCellulite is caused by a buildup of fat underneath the skin. Some women are more predisposed to it than others. The amount of cellulite you have and how noticeable it is can be based on your genes, body fat percentage, and age. The thickness of your skin also affects the appearance of cellulite. People of all body types and weights can get cellulite,ā the report said.
According to a medical article on Medical News Today, āThere is no scientific proof that cellulite creams are effective in getting rid of cellulite or reducing its appearance.ā āIt is unrelated to weight gain or loss. There is absolutely no surgical or medical solution to womenās dislike of this appearance except for the psychological self-deception of wanting to believe the ads,ā the report said, quoting Dr Garry S Brody, a professor of plastic surgery at the University of Southern California.
The correct way to get rid of cellulite is through lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet and regular exercise while staying away from harmful substances such as drugs. It is always best to consult a doctor to discuss other ways such as surgical procedures.
Debunking the claim by āanti-celluliteā sprays, Sujatha Stephen RD, chief nutritionist at Yashoda Hospitals in Hyderabad said, āCellulite removal treatments are growing popularity these days as more people are struggling to maintain healthy diet and fitness. So, these sprays or liposuction may look like quick fixes but they always have negative effects on the skin, decreasing blood circulation and interfering with nutrient absorption and many more side effects.ā
No spray can substitute a healthy diet with anti-inflammatory foods, high fibre, and healthy fats along with enough exercise and regular hydration to help to avoid cellulite.
