Hyderabad: Social media users are claiming that cockroaches love human ears.

"Your ears are cockroach heaven for them to eat or rest. The smell that emanates from the ear is attractive to the cockroach, according to an entomologist at North Carolina State University," reads the viral message.

Fact Check:

The claim is true as Cockroaches find themselves attracted to human ear.

Firstly NewsMeter using Keywords came across an article by `The Verge', "Cockroaches also like small, warm, humid places. And ears qualify as all of the above. "By going into the ear, that's like a safe place to eat or rest," said Coby Schal, an entomologist at North Carolina State University.

"A safe place to eat." Roaches might wander inside our ears in search of a tasty snack. The smell that emanates from the ear is attractive to the cockroach," The Verge said quoting Schal.

We also came across an article by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which stated: "As a group, they tend to prefer a moist, warm habitat".

As we read in the previous article, ears qualify as the best place for roaches to eat or rest.

We found a YouTube video on the 'SELF' YouTube channel where Entomologists like Matthew Frye Ph.D. spoke of how cockroaches are attracted to the human ear. He spoke in special reference to wax that is present in the human ear.

Conclusion: Hence the claim is True. Cockroaches like small, warm, humid places and ears qualify for this.
