Fact:The claim is false. Both the Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and the Bangladesh stand-in captain Jaker Ali shook hands after the toss.
Hyderabad: The Asia Cup 2025 match between India and Bangladesh took place on September 24 at the Dubai International Stadium. Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl. India scored 168 and won the match by 41 runs.
A video showing the coin toss at the India-Bangladesh match is going viral on social media with the claim that Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav snubbed Bangladesh stand-in captain Jaker Ali by not extending a handshake.
The video shows both team captains and host Ravi Shastry. Suryakumar Yadav tossed the coin. Jaker Ali shared Bangladesh’s decision to bowl with Ravi Shastry while the Indian cricket captain is seen walking away.
Sharing the video on X, a user wrote, “So no handshake between India and Bangladesh too?” The caption refers to the Super Four match between India and Pakistan on September 21, where the two teams did not shake hands before or after the game. Neither did the captains during the toss. (Archive)

Using keyword searches, we found an X image shared by OneIndia News on September 24. The image shows Suryakumar Yadav and Jaker Ali, reaching out to each other, extending hands for a fist bump.

The post further stated, “India continues its selective handshake tradition—greeting every opposing team, captain, and official except Pakistan—drawing attention from fans and media alike.”
We found a video of the coin toss, sharing the full interaction between the captions and the host. It was shared in an X post on September 24 with the caption, “India vs Bangladesh Asia Cup 2025 Toss Update”. At the 1:41-minute mark, we can see both captains going for a fist bump.

Another image shared on Facebook shows the Indian cricket team players shaking hands with their Bangladeshi counterparts. This is usually done after the match ends.

While we couldn’t find the source of the claim video, we have evidence showing players from both teams interacting and shaking hands with each other, unlike what happened with the Pakistan team. Therefore, the viral claim that there was no handshake between India and Bangladesh during the Asia Cup match is untrue.
