Fact Check:

The claim is false.

When NewsMeter clicked on the link, it takes us to a survey, which even has the Amazon logo on it. After filling out the survey you then have to choose a box from a set of nine, and one has a present. The link then says that to claim the prize, the user needs to forward the link to 5 groups of 20 friends on WhatsApp.

There were 9 gift boxes out of which one had only three chances to find a box with a gift. The first box shows empty and the second box show a gift, an Apple iPhone. To redeem the gift one had to follow the instructions given on the next page. It wanted us to share the link with others. To claim the gift, we were asked to share it on Whatsapp.

We noticed that even after refreshing the page several times, the number of likes, reactions, and comments remained the same. Despite providing the answer, we were directed back to the same browser survey.

Even though the game can only be played once, the link could be clicked repeatedly, and each time it followed the same pattern and gave the same gift.

Also, the name in the URL is not amazon but TinyURL but the official website has no such announcement. If Amazon is offering gifts, it will advertise this on the website, and not via WhatsApp.

Hence, a spam link is being circulated on social media in the name of the Amazon shopping site.
