HYDERABAD: A WhatsApp video claiming World Health Organization (WHO) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have warned India about 50,000 Covid deaths by April 15, is circulating on social media.
The viral video carries the logo of 'News 24 Live' and claims: "The next 72-108 hours may be problematic for India. Over 50,000 deaths may occur. The next 20 hours are very crucial for India. WHO, ICMR has warned India. WHO, ICMR have said that if Indians do not improve in 20 hours, the country will enter the third stage i.e. community transmission at 11 pm tomorrow. If Indian enters the third stage, then it might witness approximately 50,000 deaths by 15 April."
However, this claim is false as WHO has denied issuing any such warning.
FACT CHECK:
We searched online for the news channel 'NEWS24' but couldn't find the viral bulletin.
Further, the official Twitter handle of WHO South-East Asia stated that the video is fake and that no such warning was issued by the organization. The tweet reads: " Video claiming @WHO has warned of 50,000 #COVID-19 deaths in India by 15 April is FAKE NEWS".
Hence, the viral video is fake.
