Hyderabad: Amid the ongoing State Assembly elections in Bihar, with the first phase of polling held on November 6 and the final phase scheduled for November 11, a video showing people attacking a convoy, reportedly of political leaders, is circulating on social media.
Those sharing the clip claim that a BJP MLA was chased away by the public during the election campaign in Bihar.
Sharing the video, a Facebook user wrote, “BJP leader was chased away from the village. #BJPNEWS #bjpbiharnews #NDA4Bihar #vidhayak #biharelection2025 #BiharPolitics #BiharNews #biharvidhansabhaelection2025 #Bihar.”
A similar claim can be found here.
NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading, as the video shows BJP leaders being attacked in West Bengal.
In the video, we noticed a West Bengal number plate on the Scorpio vehicle, which was being attacked. We also noticed the location in the video mentioned in Bengali as Nagrakata, which hinted that the incident could be from West Bengal.
A reverse image search led us to a video report published by the Indian Express Bangla on October 6 featuring the identical visuals.
According to the media outlet, BJP MP Khagen Murmu, State BJP President Shamik Bhattacharya, and MLA Shankar Ghosh were attacked during their visit to Nagrakata in North Bengal to assess the flood situation.
The report also mentioned that the locals reportedly surrounded and assaulted them. Shankar Ghosh was pushed and hit with shoes, while Khagen Murmu sustained injuries due to stone pelting.
We also found the same visuals in the video reports published by ABP Ananda and TV9 Bharatvarsh on October 6.
Both media outlets reported that Siliguri BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh and Malda MP Khagen Murmu were brutally assaulted during their visit to Nagrakata, Jalpaiguri district, devastated by rain and landslides.
The Hindu reported on October 6 that BJP MP Khagen Murmu was hospitalised with severe head injuries after stones were pelted at a delegation of BJP leaders at Nagrakata in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district. The delegation was visiting the flood and landslide-hit areas for inspection and relief work. The incident was also reported by India Today on the same day with similar details.
Therefore, we conclude that the video does not show BJP leaders being chased and assaulted in Bihar during election campaigning.
