Fact Check: Bihar polls – JDU’s Lalan Singh says Tejashwi Yadav is not involved in any scam? Here are the facts
Claim:The video shows JDU leader Lalan Singh accusing Amit Shah of betraying Nitish Kumar. He also gives a clean chit to Mahagathbandhan CM face Tejaswi Yadav amid the ongoing Bihar assembly elections.
Fact:The claim is misleading. Singh’s video is from 2022, when JDU and the BJP were political opponents, not allies as they are now, during the November 2025 Bihar elections.

Hyderabad: As Bihar prepares for the final phase of Assembly elections on November 11, a video featuring senior JDU leader Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Panchayati Raj, has been circulating widely on social media.

The video is being shared with the claim that Singh made a statement stating that RJD leader and Mahagathbandhan CM candidate Tejashwi Yadav is not involved in any scam, and that Amit Shah has betrayed and conspired against Nitish Kumar. The video is being circulated to suggest a rift within the NDA amid the ongoing assembly elections.

Congress leader Surendra Rajput shared the video with the caption, “Lalan Singh’s birthday gift to Tejashwi Yadav. He is clearly saying that Tejashwi ji has no role in any scam. It was all Amit Shah ji’s conspiracy. And Mahagathbandhan is going to form the government with a large majority in 2025.” (Archive)

Notably, Tejashwi Yadav celebrated his 36th birthday on November 9.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading as the video is from 2022.

Is the video recent?

We skimmed through the comments on the Rajput’s post and found a user stating that the video is from 2022.

Building on this, we conducted a keyword search in Hindi, which led us to the video posted on the official X handle of Lalan Singh on September 24, 2022.

The video in question is the same one currently being circulated. Singh had shared the video with a caption alleging that Union Home Minister Amit Shah orchestrated a conspiracy against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, with all actions occurring under his direct supervision. He also alleged that in 2017, Shah misused the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to target RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav by implicating him in the IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) case, which eventually led to the breaking of the Mahagathbandhan.

Was JDU in alliance with BJP when Lalan Singh accused Amit Shah of betraying Nitish Kumar?

In August 2022, Nitish Kumar made a dramatic political move by leaving the NDA alliance and rejoining the Mahagathbandhan with RJD, Congress and Left parties.

On September 23, 2022, Amit Shah addressed a rally in Bihar’s Purnea, where he said the “Lalu-Nitish duo will be wiped out in 2024 general elections” The video Lalan Singh posted on September 24, 2022, was a response to Shah’s attacks.

When did JDU rejoin the BJP-led NDA?

In January 2024, Kumar resigned as Chief Minister, broke the alliance with RJD and Congress, and rejoined the NDA, marking his ninth term as Chief Minister.

Therefore, we conclude that Singh’s video is from September 2022 and was made when JDU and BJP were political opponents, not allies as they are now during the November 2025 Bihar elections. Hence, the claim is misleading.
