Hyderabad: A video allegedly showing BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi questioning street vendors about their religion following the party’s victory in the Delhi Assembly elections has gone viral on social media. In the video, Negi asks vendors their names and religious identity.

A Facebook user shared the video with the caption, “BJP MLA from Parpath Ganj Ravindra Singh, just after a day winning, can be seen warning traders to put identifications in front of the shops!!” (Translated from Kannada) (Archive)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false.

A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led to a post on the Facebook page of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), dated December 8, 2024.

The post alleged that BJP councillor Ravinder Singh Negi had been harassing Muslim vendors and questioned why Delhi Police had not taken action against him for spreading communal hatred.

Further, a keyword search led us to a report by The Tribune published on December 9, 2024, which mentioned the same video.

According to the report, the CPM accused Negi of threatening Muslim vendors and compelling them to display their names. It also stated that Negi was distributing saffron flags to Hindu shopkeepers.

Additionally, a similar video was found on the Instagram page jist.news, shared on December 8, 2024.

The post stated that the video was taken on December 3, 2024, in Vinod Nagar, Delhi, showing Negi placing saffron flags on the carts of Hindu vegetable vendors.

Therefore, it is clear that the video was not made after the BJP’s victory in Delhi.
