Hyderabad: Folk singer-turned-politician Maithili Thakur scripted history by winning the Alinagar constituency in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections at just 25 years old. The BJP candidate defeated RJD’s Binod Mishra by a decisive margin of 11,730 votes, securing 84,915 votes. Her victory marked the first time the saffron party captured the Alinagar seat in Darbhanga district.
Meanwhile, a video of Thakur roaming the streets of London with her mother and another lady has been circulating on social media. It is being claimed that she flew to London after winning the Assembly polls and has been enjoying a private visit at the government’s expense.
Sharing the video, an X user wrote, “Look, Bihar’s development is happening in London. Now development has gone to hell, Madam has gone to tour London. The watchman (PM Modi) was already roaming around foreign countries; now another one (woman leader) has arrived to waste the country’s money in other nations. What do you say, friends...?” (Roughly translated from Hindi)

Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading, as the video has been available on the internet at least since September 2025.
Since Thakur herself mentions visiting London in the viral video, we checked her social media accounts. She had posted the video on both Instagram and Facebook on September 26 with the caption ‘Day 3 in London.’ This confirms that the video and Thakur’s visit to London predates the Bihar polls, as it concluded with counting on November 14.
We also found several blog videos (links here and here) of Thakur visiting London posted on her YouTube channel in June 2024.
Finally, we reviewed Thakur’s latest posts (links here and here), which were all related to the election. None of the recent posts showed her visiting London.
NewsMeter does not independently confirm whether Thakur is visiting or has visited London after the conclusion of the 2025 Bihar polls. However, we do confirm that the viral video has been available on the internet at least since September 2025.
Hence, the claim is misleading.
