Can apple cider vinegar help in weight loss?

Social media users are claiming consuming apple cider vinegar every day helps in drastic weight loss.

To shed excess pounds and turn yourself into a healthier person you must eat healthy and exercise regularly. It might not sound appealing but believe me that no weight-loss pills can replace nutritious foods, users said.

There’s no shortcut to losing weight and keeping it off. People tend to look out for easy and hustle-free tricks to lose weight.

Fact check

NewsMeter found that these apple cider vinegar supplements do not work without proper diet and regular exercise.

Even if we believe that Apple Cider Vinegar works along with diet and workout there are certain side effects these pills carry along.

We contacted our expert Dr. Fawad Ali from John Hopkins University, to debunk the myth.

'Apple cider vinegar isn't likely to be effective for weight loss', says Dr.Ali.

'Proponents of apple cider vinegar claim that it has numerous health benefits and that drinking a small amount or taking a supplement before meals helps curb appetite and burn fat.

However, there's little scientific support to back these claims. Studies of apple cider vinegar for weight loss have not consistently shown significant and sustainable weight loss across diverse groups of people. Although the occasional use of apple cider vinegar is safe for most people, it does carry some risks.'

For example:

  • Apple cider vinegar is highly acidic. It may irritate your throat if you drink it often or in large amounts.
  • Apple cider vinegar may interact with certain supplements or drugs, including diuretics and insulin.
  • This may contribute to low potassium levels.

Remember, there's no magic bullet for weight loss. Be sceptical of any approach that claims you can lose weight without decreasing calories or increasing physical activity.

In all, the scientific evidence that vinegar consumption (whether of the apple cider variety or not) is a reliable, long-term means of losing excess weight is not compelling.

As far as this advertisement is concerned, they are advocating taking apple cider vinegar along with a balanced diet and regular workout, it's the latter two things(regular workout and balanced diet) that are going to help lose weight with or without apple cider vinegar!!
