HYDERABAD: A poster claiming that Chennai's Loyola College has released exit poll results is circulating on Whatsapp.
The post quoting Loyola College poll claims that the DMK will suffer a setback in the local elections.
"The DMK will face a setback in the local elections. The DMK is facing a major setback in the local elections to be held on February 19, 2022. This is the first time the ruling party has suffered a setback in a local election, according to a Loyola College poll," reads the post.
FACT CHECK:
The urban local body elections in Tamil Nadu were held on February 19. If Loyola College had published a poll that resulted in the DMK party facing a setback, the media would have reported it. However, no such reports were published. NewsMeter also contacted Loyola College and received confirmation that no such poll was conducted by the college.
NewsMeter also noticed that the Tamil font used in the viral poster is not the same as official posts released by Thanthi TV. The viral post is fake.
In 2017, during the by-elections in the RK Nagar constituency in Chennai, a former professor at Loyola College published a poll on the election. A few Loyola College students predicted results. However, the college administration issued a press release stating that neither Loyola College nor any of its departments have conducted a poll. The College said they had nothing to do with any group that published opinion polls in the name of Loyola College.

Clearly, the claim that Loyola College, Chennai has released results predicting a setback for DMK in the local elections is fake.
