Hyderabad: A video of Australian cricket team captain Pat Cummins standing alone after receiving the 2023 ICC World Cup trophy from prime minister Narendra Modi and Australian deputy PM Richard Marles is going viral on social media.

Those sharing the video are insinuating that PM Modi insulated Cummins by not congratulating him for the World Cup victory. A Pakistani journalist, Wajahat Kazmi, shared the video from their premium X account, with the caption, “India proved itself to be the most disgraceful host! (sic)”

Several X users shared the video calling India a disgraceful host.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the video is clipped to edit out the part where the leaders congratulate Pat Cummins.

While skimming through Kazmi’s post, we found the longer version of the video posted by a user in the comment section. It showed PM Modi and the Australian deputy PM shaking hands with the Cummins after awarding the trophy.

Another X user, Karthik Reddy, shared an even longer version which showed the two leaders greeting the Australian players after coming down from the stage.

News agency ANI also shared several images which showed PM Modi greeting the Australian skipper after presenting the trophy.

News.com.au reported that the Australian captain had to wait longer for his teammates to join him as the two politicians were shaking hands with the rest of the Australian team off the stage.

Hence, we conclude that the viral video is clipped and is being shared with the missing context.
