Hyderabad: A video of Bhartiya Janta Party national president J.P Nadda is being widely shared by Congress Party leaders. In the video, Mr. Nadda can be heard saying, “The government of BJP means rape.”
Media convener of Uttar Pradesh Congress Lalan Kumar shared the video claiming that Mr. Nadda has finally spoken the truth. (Archive)

Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the viral video has been doctored and that Mr. Nadda made no such statement.
We went through Lalan Kumar’s post and found that a user, Karan Sharma, had posted a longer version of the same video in the comments. In this video, Mr. Nadda can be heard saying, “The government of CPM means rape, shut down, strike…”
Taking a cue from this, we found that the viral clip is from a speech Mr. Nadda delivered at a public meeting in Agartala, Tripura, on 12 January 2023. At around the 29.07-minute mark, Mr. Nadda can be heard saying, “The government of CPM means rape.” We checked the whole video but did not find Mr. Nadda saying BJP means rape.
It is evident that two clips have been merged to mislead the public. Hence, we conclude that the claim and the video are misleading.
