Hyderabad: In the early morning of January 3, the US struck Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, and captured President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in a military operation and flew the couple to New York.
Meanwhile, a video has been circulating on social media, claiming it shows Maduro’s supporters flooding the streets of Caracas protesting against his abduction.
Sharing the video, an X user wrote, “BREAKING: Massive crowds flooded the streets of Caracas in SUPPORT of Maduro. The media won’t show you this.” (Archive)
NewsMeter found that the claim is false, as the video has been available online since at least November 14.
How old is the video?
We noticed the TikTok username ‘@jmaldonado.01’ in the viral video. Taking this cue, we searched for the account on TikTok using a VPN and found the video posted on November 14, 2025. The post did not provide any details about the video.
We also found the video shared by a Facebook account on November 15, 2025. According to the post, the video depicts resistance to US imperialism.
Since the video has been shared before the US attack on Venezuela, we can confirm that the video is not related to it.
How are people reacting to Maduro’s capture in Venezuela?
According to a BBC report of January 4, Venezuelans are reacting to the news of President Nicolás Maduro’s capture by the US with hope, fear and uncertainty. Maduro’s supporters have been rallying in the streets of Caracas, demanding that the US release their leader, while some have condemned the US act, others are hopeful, expecting a light at the end of the tunnel.
Therefore, we conclude that the video is old and does not show support for Maduro in Venezuela after his capture of the US on January 3.
