Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the statement attributed to Deshpande is fake.

Deshpande, on his verified Instagram account, posted a clarification denying making any such statement. In an Instagram story, he called out all accounts spreading the fake quote and said, “I have absolute respect for all the legends mentioned above. I did not, and would not, make any such demeaning statements. Stop spreading fake news.”

We also found the statement was first tweeted by a fake Twitter account impersonating popular cricket enthusiast Mufaddal Vohra. The handle, after being called out, deleted the tweet and changed the profile name and picture. The user also locked the account.
