Hyderabad: As the protest against the mandatory hijab policy in Iran continues to rage after the death of 22-old-year Mahsa Amini in police custody, a video is being shared on social media with the claim that a woman in Iran went topless to protest against the government.

In the video, a topless young woman along with other protestors can be seen addressing a huge crowd.

"Hijab protests become topless in Iran. How future will unfold only time will tell but a revolution is taking place in Islamic countries. Their own women are raising their voice against them being treated as commodities. But islamic men are still steeped in 14th century mentality," wrote a Twitter user who shared the video.

Fact Check

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search of the video and found that it was posted on Twitter on 1 October by the verified handle Radio Zamaneh–an Amsterdam-based Persian language radio. The tweet mentioned that the girl in the video is Niloufer Fuladi, who is protesting against the murder of Mahsa Amini and Iran's mandatory hijab policy.

A tweet by Columbia-based state radio broadcaster VOA Farsi confirms that the video is from Amsterdam, Holland, and the protest seen in the video was taken out against the anti-woman laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

We also found a video recorded from a different angle but with similar visuals published by the YouTube channel Persian Dutch Network on 1 October. The description of the video states, "Over 1000 people in Amsterdam attended the demonstration against the Islamic regime of Iran. The Persian community in the Netherlands has shown its solidarity by organising various demonstrations in Dutch cities since the start of the new pro-freedom movement in the homeland following the tragic death of Mahsa Amini in Tehran."

It is evident that the protest seen in the viral video was taken out in Amsterdam, Holland in solidarity with the protestors in Iran. Hence, the claim that the viral video is from Iran is false.
